Trevor,
From what I am told and what I can put together myself the website was our main downfall.
The structure of the website, whilst being well written was designed by an IT person without sufficient input by users.
The website was created by Rodger in consultation with Bill, both of whom are excellent people but unfortunately not enough consulting was done with the members, the end result being it was too complex.
This coupled with the webmasters tight grip on things was a disinsentive to free speech.
I am also of the belief that the lack of interaction with members from the top down left members feeling left out, together with a single focus event that dragged on for nearly 12 months in the planning without any updates to members has been a contributing factor.

John,

Great stuff to ask all members why things went wrong and give them a chance to express their views. I have read the remarks from the sitrep site but I really don't think all those that were once members have put there side across. Hopefully they will.

1. From me, looking from the outside inwards the 3/4 website was to much over the top and became tiring to do any looking up for stuff.

2. It was absolutely crazy for those in charge at the time to only let members use certain parts of the forum and totally rediculous to censor those postings on the visitors and other pages.

3. Transperancy is the word these days and if what the committee wants to do or is doing without the authority of the organisation/members then it is a licence to failure.

In conclusion i will say this, the elected committee run the association on behalf of the members. If the members can't or don't have a say then there will be no association. Its as simple as that.

How did we arrive at this point?

I must ask how we have arrived at the point where this association could cease to exist.

We did not just wake up one morning and find that all our members were silent.

There must have been some warning signs.

It reminds me of the old adage;

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

What was our "nail" that went unnoticed.

Something must have set us on this path tell me,

[1]was it the change to our own forum and website?

[2]or was it the moderators rules on forum use?

[3]or could it have been the lack of social interaction?

[4]or was it .....?

Looking for answers so we don't repeat the failures of the past.

Regards John
