Clarification of what I am looking for

Post  John Coe (AJ) on Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:48 pm

Noel cautioned me as to making changes that would require amending the constitution. Below is the answer to Noel copied and pasted here for your info:

No I am not looking to re-invent the wheel, but more to put some flesh on the bones that are our aims and objectives.

I am endeavouring to get members to look at each of the parts of the aims and objectives, to consider them and elaborate on how they believe we can achieve them.

In particular I would like them to consider how they mesh with their own expectations of why they joined the association.

OUR AIMS:

Our aim is to foster the goodwill and camaraderie that we all enjoyed during our service and to ensure that camaraderie continues into the rest of our lives.

How do we go about ensuring that this occurs, to be frank (and I apologise to all the other Franks out there) Laughing I do not think that we are doing such a great job of this at present. Crying or Very sad

We wish to create a forum where old friends can catch up and new ones be made. We wish to have a major reunion every five years and social gatherings much more frequently.

What gatherings do we want, when and where?

It was decided at and reinforced at several more meetings that we would become an Association of Evolution.

How is this to be progressed, what does it actually mean?

One of the rules put forward is that the President can only sit for a period of three years, and then must pass on the batten. The intent of this is to encourage a generational evolution where change is constant.

Fairly self explanatory no input required.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

To combine into an association -
Former members of the 3rd and 4th Cavalry Regiments and any other like Regiment;

Former and present members of B Sqn 3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment (APC); and

Former and present members, their widows, dependants and next of kin of any other Australian Cavalry Regiment or unit which functioned or is functioning in the recognized cavalry role.

The old website as part of its main banner had words “Post 1972 members of 3rd and 4th Cavalry Regiments , former and serving members of B Squadron, 3rd /4th Cavalry Regt (APC)"

The description above does not mirror the words of the objectives and need clarification.

To foster and perpetuate ties of comradeship created by those eligible for membership.

Again self explanatory but what is required to achieve them.

To promote and advance or otherwise assist the welfare and well-being of members, their dependants and next of kin and any other persons as the management committee, branch or branches shall approve.

How, what, where?

To provide all possible assistance to members in a practical and advisory capacity.

As and when required

To diffuse or disseminate knowledge and information or otherwise further these objects.

How, what, where?

Noel on the other subject I am awaiting further confirmation from OFT regarding these matters and will advise within the next 24 to 48 hrs.

Regards John

Let us start the process to move forward

Your input is required!!!!

This post was penned (or typed for the more pedantic) prior to the association website being shut down but is still relevant.

As you may have read or heard the association has arrived at a crossroads and we as its drivers need to know should we turn left or turn right or go straight ahead, so we are seeking ideas from all members and interested parties.

On our main website page you will have seen:
Our Aim

The words you have just read were coined in this association’s infancy and are more motherhood statements listing desired outcomes rather than the mechanics of what we desire from the association.
It is now time to expand on these words and to nominate exactly what we want from this association in the way of events, support, information, forum changes or anything else you as members feel to be important.

It is imperative that this is a democratic process and to enable this outcome we are seeking your input. Please don’t think its ok because another member will respond to this and think of something, because given the dismal response from my last email to the members we are going to need your involvement and the involvement of all other members.

All ideas are important so we wish to treat this review as a brainstorming session where all ideas no matter how “out of left field” they seem to be are emailed to: review3-4cav@optusnet.com.au After a suitable time period these ideas will then collated and those with merit that can be progressed now will be shortlisted and have further input from you the members.

Ideas that hold merit but cannot be progressed immediately for whatever reason will not be forgotten but reviewed periodically for later development.
Even if you believe your ideas do not fit with the association’s current position please submit them as they may offer a solution sometime in the future?

It is hoped that the ideas chosen to be shortlisted would be placed back on the website allowing further input which will drive these ideas forward to a successful outcome. This should be accomplished by members in the public arena thereby bestowing greater ownership by all.

Members please do not underestimate the need for all to have a voice during this important process as silence from you our members will speak volumes and may in turn create disillusionment among the last of those trying to keep this association afloat.

Your secretary

John Coe
