Can you help?
Hi All,
When Mick Hannaford's tank hit a mine on 14 Dec 68, a negro medic with K Troop 3 Squadron 11 ACR ran 400m over ground which had not been cleared of mines , to help him.
Can anyone help me in finding out who he was....so that (i) he can be mentioned by name and (ii) he can be thanked?
Such challenges are not altogether impossible. When I received photos of a US Chinook (and crew) delivering fuel to tanks, immediately prior to it crashing, I thought I'd try to find the NOK to pass on copies of the photos...I was able to do so.
I'm running out of time now, however...can anyone help re K Troop's medic?
Cheers, bruce

Can you help
G'day Bruce, I passed on your request to Bruce Hersey. He was a member of K troop from April '68 to April '69.
Maybe we'll get lucky.
Cheers Mick Riley

Re: Can you help?
Bruce, Bobs website can be found here. http://www.ktroop.com/ I met Bob Hersey in 67 and again in 98 in New Orleans at a Blackhorse reunion I was invited to. While I was there I was presented with a number of items from K troop members after showing them how to drink beer the Aussie way. Nick, have you misspelled your name or do we have a MICK Riley in the US also.

Re: Can you help?
Many thanks to everyone. Another line of enquiry has been initiated as well....fingers crossed!.
Should it be relevant, this period concerned was probably one of K Troop's worse. On 13 Dec 68, they suffered 4KIA and 8 WIA as a result of a booby trap. Earlier on 14 Dec, one of their carriers hit and mine, with further casualties. It must've been a hell of a time for the medic.
Thanks again, Bruce

Bruce. In his photo albums he has on this page http://www.ktroop.com/gal1&2p14.html the K troop medic, a white medic. And this one also: http://www.ktroop.com/gal9&10p35.html

Re: Can you help?
Thanks Gavan. It'll be interesting to see if Bruce Hersey comes back with anything.
The reference to 3 Troop (tanks) working with K Tp 3/11ACR comes from the C Sqn Commander's Diary for 14 Dec. According to the 1ATF Operation Order, 3 Sqn 11ACR were allocated AO Sherman during op GOODWOOD. Maybe it was a different 11ACR Troop on the day...it would be a result to discover this, if it was so.
Cheers, Bruce

Can You Help
Good Morning Bruce:
I got a reply from Bob today:
" I searched my letters to see what I was doing on Dec. 14th but didn't come up
with anything useful. I don't remember the incident you described but who
knows, maybe someone will."
He's posted my question to their web sight.
We'll see if something turns up. Yes Gav, I just can't type like I used to. It's Nick not Mick
Cheers

Can You Help
Now Now Gavan; Got A Mac now and my fingers are too fat for the keyboard. Spelling was never my strong point mate. So long as you understand the message, the task was executed correctly. I'm looking forward to October

Ha ha. October should be good. You are making this a habit of coming home, twice in 12 months. You might start talking with Aussie accent again.
