The late Noel Lowes
I have a number of references which refer to Noel as a staff sergeant, but I also have a photo of him at Duc Thanh in which it appears that he is wearing WO2 rank. (I also have a copy of a letter which refers to him as Warrant Officer Lowes.)
I know that the SSM was the only WO2 on the tank sqn estb and that the DVA Nominal Roll has him as a sgt. I also know that the Nominal Roll has many errors in it. Is it possible that he was promoted for the LO position at Duc Thanh?
Many thanks, Bruce

Noel Lowes
Bruce,
You are correct Noel was a WO2, he was posted to Duc Thanh as an LO and I was posted as CC 92A. He only held that rank so he could be on level terms with the American advisors in Duc Thanh. When he visited Nui Dat he wore the WO rank, although he was still in actual fact a SGT. As far as I know he was not promoted to WO 2 in SVN,John Hawton would know the circumstances of the posting to Duc Thanh.
