WO3
I worked with a exchange British soldier in the late 80s. He wore a WO2 bage with a wreath. His story was that he had been a WO1, reached his time to retire (compulsory in Brithish Army), but his experience was needed. So he reduced rank, to WO2, to alow others to progress to WO1. He kept his WO1 pay scale and wore the wreath to distinguish him as a previous WO1. There was no mention of WO3. (This has nothing to do with you question has it Bruce?)

Hi Col,
Trevor Dingle was a Troop Sergeant Major (in the circumstances as discussed, ie. Troop OC was a Capt, but he had no 2IC). The rank of WO3 had been discontinued, however, and he held the position as a WO2.
Cheers, Bruce
