Re: Customs and Traditions of the RAAC
In my time at 1AR all Sqn's were issued with Sqn coloured cravats when Peter Jarret was the CO, 76-78.

RE: Honours and Awards LT W.E. Bell, WAMI - First AMF VC
There are a couple of issues with this topic:
1. The officer's given names were Frederick William
2. His award was for his actions at Brakpan, Transvaal on 16 May 1901.
3.Captain Neville Howse had already been awarded a VC for his actions at Vredefort on the 24 July, 1900.

G'Day Max
I was on that trip and in that game. It was in the opening minutes and Wayne and the 1AR captain started bluing at the firstb scrum. Sent off. We beat 1AR 20 nil. Remember the RSM 1AR stopped the bus and wouldn't let us leave until they got back the Eiffel Tower that Starry and some others has somehow "borrowed" from the mess.
A great trip.

Not all were issued with the cravats,I think it was only for the Officers , because our troop didnt receive it at that time.

Thanks Snapper,I wasn't sure who or when they were issued - it did look classy (as one would expect of course of the Corp). Peter, that might explain why he was hanging around the OR',s shower block earlier in the morning - I thought it was a funny looking sword he had in his right hand=he sure saluted a lot even though we didn't have any clothes on.

Customs and Traditions of the RAAC
Hi John,
One that always stands out to me was the wearing of a black scarf instead of a tie in dress uniform. I only saw it once at Pucka during Cav Corp training(winter 69) when we were inspected by a strange chap in full regalia which included a black scarf (not sure if it had logos on it), a light pink shirt and collar length grey hair.I dont know who he was and I never saw him again. On a more serious note I was told that scarves were worn at some stage-maybe around R.K.H's time

G'day gents
What about the Adjudant's Cup for the sports comp between regiments.
I also agree with Anon, The Beersheba Cup should also be considered.

Re: Customs and Traditions of the RAAC
Hi John,
You may wish to consider:
i. The gazetting of the Australian Tank Corps (ATC) in 1927;
ii. The wearing the MkIV tank badge as a mark of crewman proficiency (and the possibility of this qualification being reintroduced vide the Nev Modystack proposal);
iii. The role of the AASC in fostering the Armoured Corps between 1937 (demise of the ATC) and 1941 (gazetting of the AAC);
iv. Significant peacetime events in which the AAC/RAAC has participated, eg. opening of the 1956 Olympic Games, Bob Menzies' funeral etc; and
v. a section on Hon Colonels and Colonels in Chief.
I assume Chapter 8 (Honours and Awards) includes ALH Battlehonours and unit Guidons and Standard (incl origins, history). Any presentation by Sir William Slim is a matter of national history.
Regards, Bruce
(The Australian Armoured Heritage section of my draft provides some info re the above.)

Re: Customs and Traditions of the RAAC
Should perhaps include "Beersheeba Cup" in the 2 Cav Unit competitions?
