Labor Steals From DVA Disability Pensioners

The financial analysis presented in the discussion belongs to John R Howard, {Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam} not the member who posted it. Maybe the RAACA in its perceived role of Federal Voice for the RAAC ESOs can take this issue up!!!!

Labour steals from DVA Disability Pensioners

Post  David Ki on Tue Sep 22, 2009 5:43 pm

Don't forget it was the Whitlam government that stole all our accrued monies held in our (NOT Theirs) DFRB/DFRDB Fund and we are now at the whim of government to get paid from consolidated revenue.
Well done Trevor for your analysis - I hope those who read it circulate it to their fellow veterans and particularly to their local MP. This is a perfect example of how a Government can get away with an issue like this as many veterans (of all conflicts) are too sick, too tired, too disinterested, simply focused on trying to survive mentality and physically that we simply don't have any capacity left to fight for our rights - rights that were earn't on the field of battle not in the safe haven of Canberra.

David Kirkpatrick

Pension Erosion

Post  Centurio on Tue Sep 22, 2009 1:38 pm

You say, think about it when you next vote. When is the voting public going to wake up to itself and realise that historically, Labor whenever placed into government ,deliberately sets out to destroy all the good work done by their predecessors.
Australia and Australians deserve what they get from their choices made at the ballot box.

Probably heaps of books on what the RSL doesn't do for the veteran and ADF community could fill shelves in most librarys these days. And this mob is focussing its attention on our young men and women serving our country today? What a bunch of "Belly cheaters" be it DVA,Labor and RSL.

Trevor, Can we have a hyperlink to the Harmer Review or the Minister's Press Release and or an explanation of the calculations so that we can more fully understand the calculations or methodology used. Thanks Mr Chris Gardiner. study flower

Labor Steals From DVA Disability Pensioners

Post  Trev h. on Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:47 pm

I don't normally put these type of messages on the forum due to the political content BUT I consider this EXTREMELY important to pass on.

Feel free to make your thoughts known - TH

This information is disseminated in order to alert all DVA Disability Pension recipients.

You are all aware that the Rudd Labor Government has failed to honour the intent of the September 2007 legislation that was introduced into the Parliament by former Minister Bruce Billson.

That legislation was intended to ensure that all DVA Disability Pensions would maintain parity with all other major government pensions and therefore be protected against all forms of erosion in the future.

Labor, then in Opposition, voted unanimously in favour of the legislation.

You are all aware that the Rudd Labor Government failed to honour the intent of that legislation by excluding DVA disability pension from the Harmer Review even though Harmer's Terms of Reference included people with disability .

You are aware that the Rudd Labor Government, and in particular the current Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, acted dishonourably by not informing the veteran community that DVA disability pensions would be excluded from the review.

You are all now aware that in order to circumvent the intent of that legislation the Rudd Labor Government resorted to dubious methods to pull the rug out from under DVA Disability Pension recipients.

You are all aware that due to the underhanded methods employed by the Rudd Labor Government all DVA Disability Pension recipients have had their pockets picked by the equivalent of 11.4%.

In terms of parity with other major government pensions in less than 2 years the Rudd Labor Government has picked more from the pockets of disabled veterans than the Howard Government managed to steal during the 10 years it was in office.

As a result of the Minister's Press Release below here are some simple maths.

In one fell swoop -

Labor has stolen from 29537 Special Rate (TPI) disabled veterans who have lost 11.4% of $1022.10 PF = $116.52 PF = $3,444,651.20

Labor has stolen from 12137 EDAs who have lost 11.4% of $564.10 PF = $64.31 PF = $ 780,530.47

Labor has stolen from 842 Intermediate Disability Pensioners who have lost 11.4% of $693.50 PF = $79.06 PF = $ 66,568.52

Labor has stolen from 17298 DVA Disability Pensioners on 100% of the G R who have lost 11.4% of $363.10 = $41.40 PF = $ 716,137.20

68332 DVA Disability Pensioners on 10-95% of the GR (say average is 55%) have lost 11.4% of $199.70 PF = $22.76 PF = $1,555,236.30

TOTAL = $6,563,123.69

DVA Disability Pension recipients’ statistics as of June 2009 (Total 128,146).

In one fortnight a total of 128146 DVA Disabled Veterans have had $6,563,123.69 picked from their pockets by the Rudd Labor Government.

Labor has stolen this money in spite of all the understandings of the entire Parliament in September 2007, the entire ESO community and the entire veteran community. Not only that but it deliberately set out to cover its tracks and mislead the veteran and ex-ADF community.

The Minister, with the assistance of the RSL, is still attempting to sell this dud policy.

Anyone who thinks this is anything other than a betrayal of the understandings and expectations of the veteran community must be in a state of denial or just too blind to see.

In two weeks time that sum total will be doubled - that tidy sum should pay for a few extra perks for Labor Government politicians.

Think about it next time you vote.
